March 31, 2018 – Matthew 23:1-3

Then spoke Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, Saying The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat: All therefore whatever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not you after their works: for they say, and do not.

– Matthew 23:1-3

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

The Lord Jesus admonished us not to follow the Pharisees, because they were all talk and no action. The Lord Jesus said: “But be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” (James 1:22). Reflecting on myself, I always focus on speaking bombastically at meetings but pay no attention to living out the Lord’s words in real life. Though I know the Lord asked us to be patient and tolerant with others, I also communicate at meetings that I should practice according to the Lord’s words and live out normal humanity. When it comes to real life, I often quarrel with my husband over small things and regret that afterward. I always live in a sin-and-confess state and can’t extricate myself from it, which make me very distressed.

One day I saw some words in a spiritual book, “God’s work and word are meant to bring about a change in your disposition; His goal isn’t merely to make you understand or recognize it and have that be the end of it.” “The truth that man needs to possess is found in the word of God, a truth that is the most beneficial and helpful to mankind. It is the tonic and sustenance that your body needs, something that helps man restore his normal humanity, a truth that man should be equipped with. The more you practice God’s word, the more quickly your life will blossom; the more you practice God’s word, the clearer the truth becomes.

God’s words are the truth and can show us the path to a change in disposition, and are also the medicine to help us restore our normal humanity. If we practice in accordance with God’s words, our life will blossom more quickly, and our understanding of the truth will become more clearer. Thus we will possess more and more likeness of man.
