Thoughts on Today’s Verse…

Martha was busy with household work but didn’t focus on listening to Jesus’ preaching. She was troubled about many things. However, Mary outwardly didn’t do anything for the Lord, but she yearned for the Lord’s words, and listened to His preaching. She kept the Lord’s requirements in her mind. Hence, the Lord Jesus said that Mary had chosen that good part.

Many times, we also don’t pay attention to quieting before God but dedicate to working hard like Martha. We take little time to read God’s words with a quiet heart and pray to get close to Him. When some problems happen at work, we don’t pray to seek God’s will but act according to our own will. God’s words say: “So what must you pay attention to from now on? One aspect is to have a normal spiritual life, meaning these external things: prayer, meetings, eating and drinking the words of God, listening to sermons and singing hymns and praising. Besides keeping these external things, don’t delay your own duty, do your duty well. The most important point that you must understand is this: If you want to seek the truth, understand the truth and attain the truth, then you must learn to quiet yourself before God, learn to contemplate the truth and contemplate God’s words.

From these words, I understand that God’s will is not just that we can work hard for Him, but more importantly, He hopes that we can pursue truth. Only by gaining the truth can we be praised by God. Meanwhile, we need to quiet before God, then God will enlighten and guide us. In busy work, we can pray to God in our hearts and seek how to do things according to God’s will. In such way, no matter how busy we are, our spirit is fully comforted. Additionally, there is a principle if we want to serve God well. Don’t do things according to our will, but quiet our hearts before God, and seek the principles of serving God. Only in this way can we achieve good results and understand the truth.
