How Should We Discern the True Christ From False Christs in the Last Days?
My husband has believed in for just several months, but he fellowshiped so clearly about the truth concerning how to discern the true Christ from false Christs. Seems that is out of the ordinary. I said, “From Almighty , I know that God doesn’t repeat His work, that His work is always new and never old, and that when the Lord comes, He will no longer do the work of healing, driving out demons, and performing signs and wonders. But how do you make certain that Almighty God is the true Christ?”
My husband smiled, saying, “As for how to discern the true Christ, the Lord also told us the principles. He warned us, ‘Then if any man shall say to you, See, here is Christ, or there; believe it not’ (Matthew 24:23). From this verse, we can clearly see that false Christs are bursting to impersonate Christ; they are arrogant and self-conceited, and exalt themselves by saying ‘here is Christ, or there’ to deceive man. When the Lord Jesus was incarnated to work, although man was all astonished at the authority of His word and His power of healing, driving out demons, and showing signs, He didn’t to His disciples that He is the Messiah. When Peter was moved by the , saying, ‘You are … the Son of the living God’ (Matthew 16:16), the Lord Jesus charged His disciples that ‘they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ’ (Matthew 16:20). From this, we can see that God incarnate, as Christ, can be humble and hidden and is not arrogant at all. This is God’s essence. Similarly, in the last days, when Almighty God expresses the truth to do the work of judging, chastising, purifying, and changing man, there is not the slightest element of self-exaltation in His words. This is decided by the humbleness and hiddenness in God’s possessions and being. We’ll understand all the more after reading Almighty God’s words. Almighty God says, ‘Even though Christ represents God Himself in the flesh and carries out in person the work that God Himself ought to do, He does not deny the existence of God in heaven, nor does He feverishly proclaim His own deeds. Rather, He humbly remains hidden within His flesh. Apart from Christ, those who falsely claim to be Christ do not have His qualities. When juxtaposed against the arrogant and self-exalting disposition of those false Christs, it becomes apparent what manner of flesh is truly Christ. The more false they are, the more such false Christs show off themselves, and the more capable they are of working signs and wonders to deceive man. False Christs do not have the qualities of God; Christ is not tainted by any element belonging to false Christs. God becomes flesh only to complete the work of the flesh, not simply to allow all men to see Him. Rather, He lets His work affirm His identity, and allows what He reveals to attest to His substance’ (“The Substance of Christ Is Obedience to the Will of the Heavenly Father” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). ‘There are some who are possessed by evil spirits and persistently cry out, “I am God!” Yet in the end, they cannot remain standing, for they act on behalf of the wrong being. They represent Satan and the Holy Spirit pays them no attention. However highly you exalt yourself or however strongly you cry out, you are still a created being and one that belongs to Satan. I never cry out, I am God, I am the beloved Son of God! But the work I do is God’s work. Need I shout? There is no need for exaltation. God does His work Himself and does not need for man to accord Him a status or honorific title, and His work is sufficient to represent His identity and status. … You cannot do the work of God Himself or that of the Spirit. You cannot express the wisdom, wonder, and unfathomableness of God, or all the disposition by which God chastises man. So your repeated claims to be God do not matter; you have only the name and none of the substance. … You cannot make way for a new age, and you cannot bring the old to an end and cannot usher in a new age or do new work. Therefore, you cannot be called God!’ (“The Mystery of the (1)” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). From those God’s words, we see even more that God has never exalted or shown off Himself in His work, but has been silently saving man, with an intention to bestow upon man the truth they don’t possess. When man gains the truth and lives by , they will completely break away from Satan’s influence and be saved by God. Therefore, the Lord , ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me’ (John 14:6). God is the truth, the way, and the life. The truth is a natural revelation of the essence of God’s life. So, the true Christ has the essence of God’s life, and He is capable of bringing man the light and transformation in their life disposition. Furthermore, He is able to usher in a new age and end the old age, lead man in the direction of the new age, and do the work of God Himself. But false Christs don’t possess Christ’s substance, and have no truth. They can’t express Christ’s disposition and His possessions and being, or make way for a new age for man, and in no way can they do God’s work of saving man. So, their repeated claims to be Christ count for nothing due to the disapproval of God, and they are bound to court self-destruction. Even for those who have followed false Christs for a long time, they will eventually fall in darkness and die silently for lack of the supply of truth. Or else, they will be possessed by evil spirits and lose normal humanity and sense, and they’ll even need to to the evil spirits about whether to eat and sleep. From this, we can see that the authenticity of Christ is not decided by man, but by God’s essence and His work.”
I listened and thought to myself, “The words in this book are very practical. They have clearly explained the truth of how to tell the true Christ from false Christs, especially the essence and characteristics of false Christs. I’m quite convinced. It seems I should make a good investigation into the way of Almighty God.” However, at the thought of those absolute words I said just now, I couldn’t help but feel somewhat ashamed, and didn’t say a word.
Seeing me silent, my husband opened the book again and read another passage. Almighty God says, “The is a great salvation for those who are capable of accepting the truth, but for those who are unable to accept the truth it is a sign of condemnation. You should choose your own path, and should not blaspheme against the Holy Spirit and reject the truth. You should not be an ignorant and arrogant person, but someone who obeys the guidance of the Holy Spirit and longs for and seeks the truth; only in this way will you benefit. … You must not blindly condemn the words expressed by God because of the appearance of false Christs during the last days, and must not be someone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit because you fear deception. Would that not be a great pity? If, after much examination, you still believe that these words are not the truth, are not the way, and are not the expression of God, then you shall ultimately be punished, and be without blessings. If you cannot accept such truth spoken so plainly and so clearly, then are you not unfit for God’s salvation? Are you not someone who is not fortunate enough to return before the throne of God? Think about it! Do not be rash and impetuous, and do not treat belief in God as a game. Think for the sake of your , for the sake of your prospects, for the sake of your life, and do not play around with yourself. Can you accept these words?” (“When You Behold the Spiritual Body of Jesus Will Be When God Has Made Anew Heaven and Earth” in The Word Appears in the Flesh). This passage of Almighty God’s words carries admonition and exhortation, and shows God’s righteous disposition which tolerates no offense. I felt ashamed involuntarily, and found myself without a heart of reverence for God while believing in Him. These years, the Church of Almighty God has been testifying the Lord Jesus has come back, but I never actively investigate and seek. On the contrary, I refused to listen, read, or accept, and condemned it blindly. Almighty God’s words are the truth. They have authority and power, and can’t be spoken by any ordinary people. It seems that Almighty God is very likely to be the returned Lord Jesus. Thinking of this, I decided to investigate closely the way of Almighty God.
Later, through the patient fellowship of the brothers and sisters from the Church of Almighty God and reading God’s word by myself, I made certain that Almighty God is the returned Lord Jesus, and accepted His work in the last days, following God’s steps in His new work. (The end)
