When the Lord Comes With Clouds, Why Shall All Kindreds of the Earth Wail?
It is prophesied in the , “Behold, he comes with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen” (Revelation 1:7). Some people may ask: We are all expecting that the Lord can soon descend upon a cloud and take us into . Then we should be cheerful, but why does the Book of Revelation prophesy that all kindreds of the earth shall wail when God openly appears?
Actually, we can understand it easily combining the fact of religious circles opposing God. When those who serve God but oppose Him witness God’s appearance in public, there will certainly be the miserable scene of all kindreds of the earth wailing. According to man’s notions and imaginations, believers in God should be ecstatic when seeing God appear, but why will there be the scene of wailing? In fact, it’s not difficult to understand. Because man has done many things to condemn and resist God during the time God is in the flesh, it is conceivable what a scene it will be when they see that the God who appears openly is exactly the One they have persecuted and condemned. If the One they condemned and resisted is not God, how could the scene be grievous?
Looking back, when the was incarnated to work in the Age of Grace, He was called Jesus rather than the Messiah and was born in a manger. When God’s work is at odds with man’s conceptions, man will oppose and condemn it crazily. Even though those chief priests, scribes, and the Pharisees had seen the Lord Jesus expressed the truth and performed many miracles, they still clung to their notion that “You are not the One to come unless You are called the Messiah, no matter how profound Your preaching.” So they blasphemed, slandered and condemned the Lord Jesus without compunction, saying that He drove out demons by Beelzebub, the prince of the devils. At that time, many Jewish people without discernment believed what they said, and alongside them, condemned the Lord Jesus and finally nailed Him to the cross. When the Lord Jesus was crucified, the earth shook, the temple curtain was torn in two, and all the people present were astonished. Just like the Bible records, “And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the middle. And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into your hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned” (Luke 23:44-48). When the Lord Jesus openly appeared to man after the resurrection and man saw the One they condemned and opposed was exactly the Messiah they had long waited for, how could they not wail? However, all their deeds had offended God’s disposition, and consequently, they were cursed by God. In A.D. 70, Israel was subjected to unprecedented destruction. The Jewish people were displaced and rootless, unable to return to their homeland for nearly two thousand years.
Today, two thousand years later, when it comes to the matter of the Lord’s return, the whole religious circles act just like the Pharisees. Facing the testimony of the Church of that the Lord Jesus has already returned in the flesh to work, they don’t seek or investigate, but simply cling to their notions of “The Jesus who does not ride upon a white cloud is a false Christ,” and “Any preaching beyond the Bible is wrong and can’t come from God’s work, no matter how good it is.” Therefore, they reject the way of the truth brought by Almighty God, Christ of the last days. Seeing that all the true believers in the Lord turn to Almighty God, the pastors and elders in religious circles are afraid of losingtheir position and jobs, and thus fabricate numerous rumors to resist, condemn and slander Almighty God, shackle the believers desperately and prevent them from accepting the true way. These believers nominally believe in God, but in reality they are following man. They follow whatever the pastors and elders say, refuse to listen to, read or contact anything preaching the Lord’s return, and have nailed the returned Lord Jesus to the cross. They are the very people who pierced Him as recorded in the Bible. When God reveals Himself in public to the myriad hosts of humanity will be when His hidden work of incarnation comes to an end, and then God will reward the good and punish the wicked. Those who oppose and condemn Almighty God will fall into disasters beating upon their breast, mourning and grinding their teeth.
Just as Almighty God says, “Many people may not care what I say, but I still want to tell every so-called saint who follows Jesus that, when you see Jesus descend from the heaven upon a white cloud with your own eyes, this will be the public appearance of the sun of righteousness. Perhaps that will be a time of great excitement for you, yet you should know that the time when you witness Jesus descend from the heaven is also the time when you go down to hell to be punished. It will herald the end of God’s management plan, and will be when God rewards the good and punishes the wicked. For the judgment of God will have ended before man sees signs, when there is only the expression of truth. Those who accept the truth and do not seek signs, and thus have been purified, shall have returned before the throne of God and entered the ’s embrace. Only those who persist in the belief that ‘The Jesus who does not ride upon a white cloud is a false Christ’ shall be subjected to everlasting punishment, for they only believe in the Jesus who exhibits signs, but do not acknowledge the Jesus who proclaims severe judgment and releases the true way of life. And so it can only be that Jesus deals with them when He openly returns upon a white cloud. … The is a great salvation for those who are capable of accepting the truth, but for those who are unable to accept the truth it is a sign of condemnation. You should choose your own path, and should not blaspheme against the and reject the truth. You should not be an ignorant and arrogant person, but someone who obeys the guidance of the Holy Spirit and longs for and seeks the truth; only in this way will you benefit” (“When You Behold the Spiritual Body of Jesus Will Be When God Has Made Anew Heaven and Earth” in The Word Appears in the Flesh).
During the Age of Grace, the Lord Jesus incarnate completed the work of redemption, redeeming man from the hands of Satan. Man, redeemed by the Lord Jesus, was forgiven of all his sins, yet the root of his sin has not been rid of. Man still lives in the condition of sinning and confessing, without breaking free from the bondage of sin. So in the last days, Almighty God becomes flesh to work in secret, expressing His words to judge and cleanse man. God reveals His disposition and what He has and is to man, shows man the way of getting rid of sin and creates a group of overcomers before the disaster. It fulfills what’s said in the Bible, “Behold, I come as a thief” (Revelation 16:15). “For as the lightning, that lightens out of the one part under heaven, shines to the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day. But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation” (Luke 17:24-25). “He that rejects me, and receives not my words, has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day” (John 12:48). “Him that overcomes will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out” (Revelation 3:12).
During the time God works in secret, He doesn’t appear openly but only expresses His words. Whoever returns to God after hearing His voice and is ultimately perfected after accepting His work of judgment are the most blessed ones. They will live in God’s blessings, full of delight and joy. On the contrary, those who keep to their own notions and imaginations and refuse to accept God’s new work will miss the chance of being perfected by God and end up wailing and gnashing their teeth in disasters. Therefore, we should seek and investigate humbly when we hear the witness that the Lord Jesus has returned working in the flesh. Just as the Lord Jesus says, “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. … Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. … Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:3, 6, 8). As long as we seek God’s appearance with a heart that reveres God, we are sure to behold the face of God and will not wail when God appears to man in public.
